Clashing Symbols II - Alligators and Pacmen: A Study on Mathematical Symbolic Association - ID: 1
Description: This workshop will present the results of a recent Princeton University study on the potentially detrimental consequences of symbolic associations to a student's mathematical comprehension. Specific classroom strategies for providing students with clear and consistent symbolic usage will also be presented. This workshop is a follow-up to last year's Clashing Symbols workshop where participants were exposed to the use and consequence of using multiple meaning math symbols in the classroom.

The Animation of Mathematics II - ID: 2
Description: This workshop will introduce participants to an alternative, interactive, animated approach to the instruction of many basic mathematics and introductory algebra concepts. This workshop is a follow-up to, and expansion of, last year's Animation of Mathematics workshop. The Animation of Mathematics attempts to address the unique cognitive composition of all students as outlined by Dr. Howard Gardner in his Theory of Multiple Intelligences. The stories, games, and animations contained in The Animation of Mathematics are specifically designed to address the unique educational needs of students who learn best through their visual-spatial, verbal-linguistic, bodily-kinesthetic, and interpersonal intelligences, in an attempt to stimulate and improve their logical-mathematical intelligence. Specific, practical classroom strategies will be presented for addressing the mathematical needs of students at all grade levels.
